Alicur is a company with an interest in helping to maintain the Environment, thus demonstrating its social and environmental commitment to its clients, seeking to achieve the highest level of satisfaction among its own workers and displaying its willingness to contribute to sustainable economic growth. To this end we have adhered to the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (Quality Management Standard for Environmental Procedures), a tool designed to enable our company to identify and control the environmental impact of its services, products and activities, and to reinforce its ongoing environmental commitment.

We have devised and implemented an ongoing vision of how to achieve our environmental goals, which are reviewed six-monthly in internal audits and annually in external audits. Some of the concrete results of this process are as follows:

  1. We have introduced an Integrated Quality and Environmental Management System,, in order to reduce environmental impact.
  2. We have implemented waste management and natural resource consumption control programmes.
  3. We have succeeded in making our workforce aware of the environmental concepts to be applied within and beyond the workplace, and are providing the resources needed to achieve the objectives we have set ourselves, to which they are totally committed.
  4. We train and inform our workers on environmental issues via specific courses and on emergency response tactics in periodic drills.
  5. We have created our own Basic Guidelines to understanding environmental management, waste management and identification, the handling of chemical products and fire behaviour.
  6. We specifically identify environmental activities, whose associated environmental impact is later evaluated in the periodic audits carried out to this end.
  7. We ask our suppliers to follow the same Quality and Environmental management procedures, and to this end we have set ourselves two new goals this year:
    1. To increase the number of paint and chemicals suppliers with a certified commitment towards the environment.
    2. To include in our viability studies the possibility of equipping buildings with purifiers allowing for the reuse of waste water at project level.

The importance of the Environment is evident in our work from the very beginning:

  1. From the planning stage we analyse all of the documentation necessary for a preventive control of the consumption of natural resources and the emission of atmospheric pollutants.
  2. Our machinery is subject to rigorous and continual maintenance in order to control its residual waste and contamination.
  3. We control noise and dust emissions thanks to the afore-mentioned maintenance, and in conjunction with the programming of our working hours and water spraying.
  4. We recycle all viable material and reuse the vegetation and natural soil for the gardens of the same property developments.
  5. All of our work sites have suitable facilities for collecting and selectively separating waste for subsequent disposal by specialist, authorised waste management companies.

Our RECYCLING POINTS are to be found on each of our work sites under limited access and are equipped with containers specific to the storage of the waste product in question. Each site also has skips for the remainder of waste products and receiving points for the collection of domestic waste from the staff’s quarters.

Applications visible to the client:

We identify the environmental aspects inherent in the course of our company’s daily activities as a whole, including the products and services generated, and assess the impact of these at our periodic audits. This provides us with valuable information when it comes to adjusting or encouraging activities that could have a significant impact. The innovative side of our company can be seen in the fact that we analyse these aspects and incorporate our findings into the project plans themselves, making our properties more environmentally friendly and giving our clients a better quality of life. For example:

  1. Pre-installation of solar panel couplings and connections: using sunlight to heat water and save electricity, thus saving natural resources.
  2. Use of soundproofing between residences: double, solid-block dividing wall, with an intermediate layer of fibre-glass blanket insulation.
  3. Use of soundproofed window frames: double glazing and blinds.
  4. Use of light material in intermediate floor slabs: floor components made of expanded polystyrene which are lighter and prevent noise transmission through vibration
  5. Fitting of skylights that can be opened in top floor bathrooms: natural light and ventilation
  6. Dual-flush cistern: considerable water saving
  7. Maximum possible window widths: to make the dwelling as airy and light as possible.

In conclusion, let us just say that we believe that any contribution is important, however small it may be, and that the effort made in implementing this quality control system - particularly insofar as the ENVIRONMENTAL management aspect is concerned - in a company in this sector, helps to sustain our natural and urban environment. As such, one of our main objectives is to collaborate in improving living conditions, while showing the utmost respect for one our fundamental assets, the ENVIRONMENT.
